HISTORY

In 1973, a group of community volunteers opened Union Station as a simple hospitality center to serve poor and homeless men in downtown Pasadena. Since then, Union Station has grown….

1973

Alice Callaghan and volunteers from All Saints Church open a storefront hospitality center on Pasadena’s Union Street to serve poor and homeless men.

1979

Union Station’s hospitality center moves to Euclid Avenue.

1983

Union Station and six Pasadena congregations open The Depot, a 20-bed shelter located in the basement of the First Congregational Church.

1989

The Adult Center, a 6,500 square-foot, 36-bed shelter opens on Raymond Ave.

1996

Rachel’s Center, a day-service program for homeless families, opens. Passageways intake center and Sources career development program open.

1998

Union Station and Pacific Housing Alliance open Euclid Villa Apartments for homeless families.

2000

Union Station launches the Rebuilding Lives Capital Campaign.

2003

The 50-bed Family Center and new administrative offices open on Orange Grove Blvd.

2008

Construction of the 20-bed Women’s Dormitory and renovation of the Adult Center is completed. Agency changes its name from Union Station Foundation to Union Station Homeless Services.

2010

Union Station starts providing case management and onsite services at Centennial Place, a permanent supportive housing facility offering 142 single room occupancy (SRO) apartments for low-income adults. Centennial Place is owned and operated by Abode Communities.

2014

Union Station partners with United Way and LAHSA to become the lead homeless service agency in the San Gabriel Valley, coordinating the efforts of more than 40 social services agencies in an effort to end chronic, veteran and family homelessness in the region.

2016

Union Station opened Marv’s Place, a permanent supportive housing apartment complex for 19 formerly homeless families.
