Young Leaders Society, a local volunteer organization, will host its first Rockin for the Homeless 5K Run/Walk at Arcadia County Park on March 21 to raise money for homeless shelters.

Registration for the event ($40 for adults, $15 for children 15 or under) begins at 7 a.m., and the marathon will run from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., according to society President Grace Kim.

A 1K Kiddie Dash is also available for children.

Kim said the society plans fundraising events for the homeless each year.

Participants are encouraged to dress up like rock stars, she said, so everyone can enjoy the marathon feeling like one.

The society operates under Union Station Homeless Services and is comprised of members between the ages of 21 to 39.
