THE Magazine

THE Magazine: How do the current conditions of the homeless and poor in the Pasadena and Foothills Region compare to that of the Nation?

Marvin Gross: There are approximately 170,000 homeless people in California and about 2.5 million in the country, according to some estimates. Pasadena averages about 1,000 homeless adults and children on any given day. The number has slightly decreased recently, but it is hard to tell at this point if this decrease is permanent or temporary.

Working at Union Station has been incredibly fulfilling. Watching clients repair their lives is extremely moving. I have been fortunate enough to work with wonderful volunteers and staff members. In fact, we are always looking for volunteers to help us carry out our programs.
