Palm Crest Elementary sixth-grader Clara Jacobs raised $125 for Union Station Foundation by selling cookies during the holiday season, which she presented to Executive Director Marvin Gross on Jan. 2. Union Station Foundation, the largest homeless services agency in the San Gabriel Valley, will use the money to help serve more than 100 meals to homeless men, women and children.

Jacobs told Gross that she has given part of her allowance to charity before, but never money that she earned. She came up with the idea of “Clara’s Cookies” when she baked some snicker doodles this summer and one of her parents’ friends said that they were so good she would buy some. Jacobs decided to start a cookie business and donate the proceeds to Union Station Foundation. She offered four kinds of cookies: chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin, sugar, and her signature snicker doodles.

She has sold 25 dozen cookies and will sell more during upcoming school vacations.
